Reminds me of the movie "The Butterfly Effect" with Ashton Kutcher. Sometimes we have regrets today and wish we can go back in time. The downside is that there are no guarantees that today would be any better if we made different choices in our past. No looking back. Just be thankful we learned a couple things along the way.
What have a learned about bulking up?
1. Eat! Energy cannot be created nor destroyed - muscles need energy to grow. EAT! better to have a surplus of calories. Beast Mode does not have a calorie counter.
2. Legs! Legs! Legs! I neglected legs for so long. And it was a long road to packing on beef. Now today it's not a workout unless I hit some legs. Pick your poison Back Squats, Front Squats, Deadlifts (my fav) or Jump Squats
3. Abs don't count unless you're over 200lbs. Pack on the muscle and kick up your volume to shed the fat naturally.
4. Sleep. I vowed after university (6 years of architecture - from 18 years of age to 24; from 135lbs to 185lbs) that when I graduated I will get my sleep. Training during the first couple of years was done for 4 months at a time in the summer. Growth was hindered through the all nighters and weird eating habits. Seemed like I was always fighting a cold. I vowed after the sacrifice of school that SLEEP was just as important as the training. GROW MFer
5. Consistency. After University and actually half way through university I stayed consistent with my training. I am proud to say I have averaged 5 times a week of training for the past 20 or so years. It's just a tremendous amount of time in the gym - sometimes 45minutes and sometimes 3 hours. Today it's often longer as I am training clients. Giving back and sharing knowledge was inevitable.
Hope it helps some of the future beasts out there.
